Alfa Romeo Tonale receives five-star ANCAP rating

The Alfa Romeo Tonale has received a five-star rating from ANCAP, based on Euro NCAP testing of the small crossover.

Its rating has a 2022 date stamp as testing was conducted under the previous 2020-22 test protocols.

The five-star score applies to both the Ti and Veloce.

ANCAP says it performed well in all four key areas of assessment, offering “good all-round performance” for adult, child and vulnerable road user protection as well as its ability to actively avoid a crash.

It received an adult occupant protection rating of 84 per cent, a child occupant protection rating of 87 per cent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 67 per cent, and a safety assist rating of 85 per cent.

The category scores are slightly different from Euro NCAP for adult occupant protection (83 per cent) and child occupant protection rating (85 per cent).

“We are very pleased that the extensive safety features inherent in our Alfa Romeo Tonale Hybrid have now been recognised here in Australia,” said Billy Hayes, Stellantis’ senior vice president for India and the Asia-Pacific region.

Standard safety equipment on all local-spec Tonale models includes:

  • Autonomous emergency braking with vulnerable road user detection
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop/go
  • Reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Intelligent speed assist
  • Six airbags

The Veloce adds:

  • Side parking sensors
  • Traffic Jam Assist level 2 autonomous driving
  • Surround-view camera
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert

The base Ti is priced from $49,900 before on-road costs, and the Veloce is priced at $56,400 before on-roads.
