It’s in the Genes! WTCR points-scoring Jordi shares victory with son Eric
Touring car success clearly runs in the family after Eric Gené joined his father Jordi on the top step of the podium at deciding event of the Campeonato de España Resistencia (Spanish Endurance Championship) season.
The father-and-son pairing were competing in a CUPRA Leon Competición run by Monlau Competición and took the Division 1 honours after two hours of racing at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
For 15-year-old Eric, the performance was particularly notable as the event marked his touring car debut following a karting career that began in 2017.
They completed 55 laps of the Catalan track to take victory in D1 in seventh overall followed by Pedro and Jorge Pereira in an Audi RS 3 LMS. Patrick Bay and Berta Ràfols placed fourth in class in a second Monlau Competición CUPRA.
Jordi Gené was a points-scorer in the 2021 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup aboard a Zengő Motorsport Drivers’ Academy CUPRA. He was previously a winner in the FIA World Touring Car Championship and is a long-term CUPRA development driver. The 52-year-old drove for CUPRA EKS in the FIA ETCR – eTouring Car World Cup in 2022 and finished ninth in the standings.
